This standard deals with solid and laminated logs to be used in buildings, the overall shape of which may be either rectangular or round, made of pine (Picea abies) and spruce (Pinus sylvestris) grown on the Nordic timber source. Logs are manufactured from round stocks, sawn timber or glued blanks. The shape of the logs is achieved by automatic machinery or handicraft methods. The logs according to this standard are made only of timber and glue, no thermal insulation is included. Logs may be kiln dried or naturally dried. They may be used as wall logs, beam logs or other load-bearing members. For beam logs, more severe requirements are set than for wall logs. The standard sets out requirements for the essential properties of logs. In addition, requirements are presented concerning the shaping of the logs, gluing of the log blanks and quality control methods as well as quality requirements. This standard does not consider fire protective or decay protective treatments. This standard includes logs the surface of which is chemically treated against insects or stain, if these treatments do not have an influence on the other performance of the logs.
